🤔 What happens when the policy says one thing — but employees have to figure out the rest?

Generative AI is rapidly entering workplaces, but organizational guidance does not always keep pace.

🔍 What are we studying?

Through interviews with employees across different industries in Germany, we investigate how people actually use LLMs at work and how they handle questions around:

• 🔐 privacy and security

• ✅ reliability

• 📋 organizational policies

• 👥 professional norms

When formal guidance is unclear or missing, employees often create their own informal governance.

They anonymize prompts, check outputs, ask colleagues, avoid certain information, and make individual judgments about what feels safe.

💡 So what?

Responsible AI use cannot rely only on a policy document.

✨ My interest: designing situated AI governance that works in real workplaces — combining actionable policies, role-specific training, technical safeguards, open communication, and employee involvement.
